Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya, Kumbiyangoda in Matale, emerged overall champions at the Matale Education Zone Inter-School Netball Championship 2023 concluded at Aluvihare ground in Matale last week.
The netballers from this school in the suburbs of Matale, had the honour of qualifying for the finals of Under-16 and Under-18 age groups and the semi-finals of the Under-20 age category. They went on to bag the Under-16 and Under-18 titles and secured the third place in the Under-20 category, which was sufficient for them to clinch the overall title of 2023. Led by Vihanga Rasadhi, Under-16 team outplayed Matale International School by 13-6 in the final, while the Under-18 team, led by Bhavathra Kavindi, defeated fancied Sri Sangamitta Girls National School by a close margin of 12-11. In the Under-20, they beat Government Science College of Matale 12-3 in the playoff for the third position under the captaincy of Chathuni Ranvika. The success of netball game Sujatha BV could be attributed the untiring efforts taken by their PTI cum coach Anula Wijetunga, who guided and trained the players on the winning track to achieve this victory under the supervision of the Principal, Darshani Ponnamperuma.
