St. Peter’s College continued their winning streak beating Trinity College by 22-10 in their Dialog Schools Rugby League 2023 match at Pallekelle yesterday. At the short breather it was the winners who led 12-7.

Trinity played some outstanding rugby in the opening few minutes. They looked a completely revamped outfit. They got plenty of territory through their heavy forwards who drove beautifully. Rushen Bandaranayake, Sachindu Wanasinghe and Chamendra Dhanapala were outstanding both in defense as well in attack.

St. Peter’s occupied the Trinity territory four times and were able to touch down twice. They took time but once settled they looked a completely different side. Sudesh Jayawickrema had an outstanding game. Sajith Gallage and Vindya de Mel were omnipresent. But in the second half Trinity made number of handling errors which cost them the game.

Trinity shocked the home crowd with a try in the very first minute of the game through a forwards rush for Thenuk Fernando to touch down. Mohamed Shan added the extra points. It took eight more minutes for the Bambalapitiya outfit to open scoring, through their burly prop Ramithu Ridmal. Yometh Shihan added the extras. In the 25th minute of the game through a sweeping three-quarter move, Sudesh Jayawickrema touched down for the visitors.

After the turnaround, in the 39th minute, Mohamed Shan put over a 40-metre penalty for Trinity to cut the deficit to two points. Trinity made unforced handling errors, which gave Emith Jayaweera an easy opportunity to put over a penalty for St. Peter’s.

With tired legs of Trinity, the Peterites made a fantastic try through their skipper, Ashen Madugasge. Emith Jayaweera added the extras to take a good win and add another win to their tally.
