Sri Lankan Pasindu takes over as Maldivian cricket coach
Sri Lankan Pasindu Liyanaarachchi has been appointed as the Head Coach of the Maldives National Men’s Cricket team as well as its Under-19 team. A former alumni of D.S. Senanayake, Liyanaarachchi is an ICC Level III qualified coach, who has experience in coaching top school and club sides locally.
Liyanaarachchi began his coaching career with Mahanama College as junior head coach, before moving to St. Joseph’s College in the same capacity. He later moved up the ladder as head coach of Thurstan and Isipathana colleges, and had been in-charge of Colombo Malay CC and Lankan CC in the domestic structure and in the mercantile sector as coach of DFCC Bank and Nations Trust Bank.
Before joining the Maldives setup, Liyanaarachchi worked with Sri Lanka Cricket, as a District Development Coach for Colombo South Zone 1 until June 19, a day before he took wings to Maldives.
Liyanaarachchi, who took over the Maldives assignment last month, will be on a one-year contract with the Cricket Board of Maldives. His first assignment will be readying Maldives for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers to be held during September and October.
