A special train for Nallur festival from Mount Lavinia to KKS

A special train service will be launched on August 1 from Mount Lavinia to Kankesanturai (KKS) in view of the the Nallur Festival, in Jaffna.
The special train will run for the duration of the festival, about three weeks and may continue depending on public demand, a Railway spokesman said.
The northern-bound train will comprise 10 air conditioned compartments with TV facilities. Tickets priced at Rs. 4000 can be booked via Sri Lanka Railways website. A meal too will be provided on board, a Railway source said.
Meanwhile marking the successful completion of a six month renovation period, the railway track from Colombo Fort to Kankesanturai (KKS) was declared open yesterday.
The Yal Devi from Mount Lavinia to KKS, Udaya Devi and Night Mail from Colombo Fort to KKS resumed services yesterday. More trains will be added by January.
On Wednesday, following traditional Hindu rituals and an inspection tour, the Yal Devi left for KKS from Anuradhapura on a trial run.
The next phase of the renovation will target Maho to Anuradhapura and is scheduled to be completed by January next year.
