The transport difficulties and the Covid-19 situation in the last couple of years have been taken into consideration to provide a concession for students due to sit the GCE (A/L) examination if they do not meet the minimum attendance levels.

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha told Parliament this week that a decision has been taken to reduce the compulsory school attendance of students applying to sit for the GCE Advanced Level this year to 40 percent, though the existing requirement is 80 percent attendance.

All provincial education secretaries and school principals have been instructed to take decisions at the school level regarding the school attendance of students to appear for the A/L examination this year.
