On the auspicious 14th of July 2023, the SLUCSM (Sri Lanka United Catholic Students’ Movement) marked a significant milestone as they officially initiated the highly anticipated three-day residential National Seminar. The event brought together participants from all corners of the country, uniting the Catholic student community as one family at the majestic St. Anne’s National Shrine in Thalawila. The primary motive behind this gathering was to strengthen the already profound bonds within the Catholic student community while fostering new connections based on companionship and shared values.

A highlight of the seminar was the gracious presence and active participation of the most Reverend, His Excellency, Bishop Raymond Wickramasinghe. He presided over a solemn and reverent holy mass at the shrine, invoking the blessings of God Almighty upon the attendees and their endeavors.

The seminar provided a platform for knowledge and insight, thanks to the efforts of Mr. Priyantha, who conducted an enlightening session. His talk centered on guiding university students to deepen their attachment to Christian faith and values. The students exhibited tremendous enthusiasm and engagement during the interactive group dynamics presented to them.

Mrs. Shiranthi conducted a thought-provoking session on covenant marriage, emphasising its central focus on God. She emphasised the significance of a married couple’s eternal union before God, urging them to uphold lifelong commitments to love, respect, and support one another, even in the face of adversities.

The success of the event was indebted to the unwavering support and contribution of numerous benefactors who generously attended to the welfare and meals of the 250 participating students throughout the three-day seminar. Their generosity and dedication played a pivotal role in ensuring the event’s smooth functioning and enriching experiences for all attendees.

The seminar was graced by the presence of Fr. Ruwan Perera OMI, the National University Chaplain at the University of Peradeniya. His guidance and spiritual leadership added an invaluable dimension to the proceedings, leaving a lasting impact on all those present.

In conclusion, the three-day residential National Seminar organized by SLUCSM was an awe-inspiring gathering that unified and empowered the Catholic student community in Sri Lanka. By deepening their bonds of faith, fostering companionship, and cherishing shared values, the attendees left the event with renewed spirits and a strengthened resolve to make a positive impact in their lives and the world around them.
