Hollywood biopic feature ‘Oppenheimer’, the story of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his role in the development of the atomic bomb is now being screened at theatres in Colombo and the outstation.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, the feature documentary explores how one man’s brilliance, hubris and relentless drive changed the nature of war forever, led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and unleashed mass hysteria.

Academy Award nominee Florence Pugh plays psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, Benny Safdie plays theoretical physicist Edward Teller, Michael Angarano plays Robert Serber and Josh Hartnett plays pioneering American nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence.

The film also stars Oscar winner Rami Malek and reunites Nolan with eight-time Oscar nominated actor, writer and filmmaker Kenneth Branagh.

Nolan’s films, including Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy, have earned more than $5 billion at the global box office and have been awarded 11 Oscars and 36 nominations, including two Best Picture nominations.

This epic biographical thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan stars Cillian Murphy as the titular character, with Emily Blunt portraying Oppenheimer’s wife, Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, Matt Damon portraying General Leslie Groves, Oppenheimer’s military handler, and Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, a senior member of the US Atomic Energy Commission. Other members of the supporting cast include Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan.

Premiered at Le Grand Rex in Paris on July 11, ‘Oppenheimer’ was theatrically released on July 21 in Sri Lanka simultaneous to the United Kingdom and United States release by Universal Pictures.
