The Health Ministry has issued a fresh circular warning health sector workers against speaking to the media without approval from their departmental head.

The circular dated July 21 issued by Health Ministry Secretary Janaka Sri Chandraguptha again directs the attention of health sector workers to the Establishment Code and Public Administration Ministry circulars on public officers making statements and expressing views to the media.

According to a Supreme Court judgment, public officers have no legal right to make statements or provide information to the media without the approval of their departmental head, the circular pointed out.

As such, disciplinary action will be initiated against any health sector worker who behaves in a manner that contravenes these regulations, the ministry warned.
