SLIIT Young Engineering Expo 2023: Showcasing Innovation and Talent of Future Engineers
View(s):In a remarkable display of creativity and technical prowess, the SLIIT’s Faculty of Engineering proudly presented the much-awaited “Young Engineering Expo 2023” (YEE’23) on July 19, 2023. After a three-year hiatus, the exhibition served as a platform for first-year engineering undergraduates to showcase their ingenuity and problem-solving skills through more than 50 exhibits focused on addressing real-world engineering challenges.
At YEE’23, SLIIT’s engineering students demonstrated their ability to blend theoretical knowledge with out of the box thinking, delivering practical and commercial-level solutions to industry problems. Distinguished guests, including Dr. Kamal Laksiri, President of the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), and Mr. Sanath Pilapitiya, Managing Director at Future Network Holding (Pvt) Ltd, graced the event as the guests of honor, alongside numerous industry partners. SLIIT invited school students to participate, allowing them to explore technical solutions and experience the advanced laboratories equipped with cutting-edge technology. The Young Engineering Expo saw the enthusiastic participation of over thousands of students and parents from diverse schools hailing from different parts of the country. These students exemplified an unwavering commitment to engineering and innovation, showcasing their profound passion and dedication during the event. The participation of school students also provided them with a unique opportunity to explore technical solutions and experience state-of-the-art laboratories of the engineering faculty equipped with cutting-edge technology.
The Vice-Chancellor/ CEO of SLIIT, Professor Lalith Gamage, shared his thoughts on the event. “We are immensely proud of the Young Engineering Expo 2023 and the exceptional talent displayed by our students. In addition to the diverse exhibits, Young Engineering Expo 2023 featured soft skills workshops essential for success in the corporate world. Attendees also benefited from insightful discussions and lectures on various engineering-related topics. The event offered a glimpse into SLIIT’s dynamic and inclusive approach to engineering education, emphasising interdisciplinary problem-solving skills and nurturing the confidence of its students to become high-caliber engineers and entrepreneurs for the nation and beyond. This year’s expo was further enhanced by the simultaneous organisation of ‘Robofest,’ an annual robotics competition that allows young engineers from schools and universities to showcase their passion for science and
robotics.
