Avinya Academy Graduates Empower Programme Students
View(s):Avinya Academy in Bandaragama proudly announces the graduation of its first batch of Empower Programme students on August 4, 2023. The programme, initiated by the Avinya Foundation, aims to uplift less-privileged students by equipping them with essential skills for successful careers in healthcare, hospitality, or IT.
The 6-month full-time Empower Programme utilizes project-based learning, focusing on collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and communication. The students are immersed in real-world projects, transforming their enthusiasm and problem-solving abilities. Upon completion, they join vocational education and training programmes in their chosen profession to further pursue their passions.
Anju Moses, Executive Director of Avinya Foundation, expressed how the programme has positively changed the lives of students, empowering them for the 21st-century job market. Graduating students receive an NVQ Level 1 Certification on Basic Competencies to Work and the STEM.org Accredited™ Educational Experience trustmark.
Founder and Chairman, Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, emphasised the academy’s commitment to providing less-privileged students with skills and opportunities to succeed in a competitive job market. Avinya Academy’s unique approach incorporates personal and professional development, fostering accountability and work ethic in the students.
To expand its reach, the Avinya Foundation seeks support in various areas, including leasing land for new academies, securing funding for construction and operation, and forming partnerships for vocational education and job placements.
