Peace-building: Lankan student wins award in Tokyo
View(s):Lankan student Kasmira Jayaweera was awarded the “Most Peaceful Prize” for her eloquent presentation on peace-building at the 4th Children’s World Peace Summit held in Tokyo this week, at the International Conference Hall in the First Members’ Office Building at the House of Representatives of Japan.
The event was organised by the Hiroshima-based World Peace Realization Project; Peace Piece Project, established for the promotion of peace learning: creating textbooks for peace education and raising children who create peace. This forum is supported by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hiroshima Prefectural Board of Education.
At this year’s Summit, more than 200 ideas for creating peace were submitted from 20 countries, and 12 child representatives were selected from among them to give speeches at the International Conference Hall of the House of Representatives.
Kasmira Jayaweera, a student of Veyangoda Bandaranayake Central College was selected from Sri Lanka to be amongst the 12 youth representatives who delivered speeches on their ideas to create world peace. The theme of Ms Jayaweera’s speech was “Listening to other people, learning and realising the reality of the world and life”.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Japan E Rodney M Perera met and congratulated Ms Jayaweera.
