Steps towards implementation of Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity
View(s):The Indo-Sri Lanka Joint Project Monitoring Committee has taken a step towards the implementation of the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity (SL-UDI)
During a meeting at the Presidential Secretariat on Friday, key stakeholders, including Presidential Senior Adviser on National Security and Chief of Presidential Staff, Sagala Ratnayaka, State Minister of Technology, Kanaka Herath, officials from the Indian High Commissioners office and other Ministries attended.
The Indian Government has provided an advance payment of Rs 450 million to Minister Kanaka Herath, representing 15% of the total funds required for successful implementation.
The project holds immense promise in strengthening Sri Lanka’s digital infrastructure and fostering growth across various sectors, bringing the nation closer to a technologically advanced future with enhanced economic development and prosperity, the President’s Office said.
The SL-UDI project has received tenders and is currently under review, adhering to a meticulous timeline.
Mr Ratnayaka emphasised the importance of adhering to a well-defined timeline and advised regular weekly meetings to monitor progress.
Indian High Commissioner, Gopal Bagle, and First Secretary of the Indian High Commission, Eldos Mathew, Secretary of the Ministry of Technology, Prof M D Gunawardena, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, Viyani Gunathilake, and Additional Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Sulakshana Jayawardena were among the officials who attended the meeting.
