Enovus 2023: Fostering Technological Innovation and Industrial Awareness at Richmond College, Galle
View(s):The Technology Day of Galle District named as “Enovus 2023” was held at C W W Kannangara Auditorium of Richmond College, Galle on Friday, 4th August 2023. It was organised by the “Technology Stream” students of Richmond College, Galle , ably guided by Mr.P S Pushpakumara, Principal of Richmond College . Mr. M G U K Senevirathne, Master in-charge of the Technology stream of Richmond College together with teachers helped the students to organise the event.
The Chief Guest of the event was Mr.Channa Wijesekara, a distinguished Old boy of Richmond, veteran Industrialist and Chairman of Leema Creations (Pvt) Limited, a leading, award winning Interior Fit-out and Wood Working Industry.
Dr. Terrence M. Rengarasu and Dr. W.M.K.R.T.W Bandara, senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, participated for the event and Dr. Terrence M. Rengarasu and Mr. Hasitha Maduranga delivered valuable lectures.
Mr.P S Pushpakumara, Principal of Richmond College who delivered the initial speech, explained the gathering about the value of Technological Education and high employability opportunities of Technology stream students.
Chief Guest, Mr.Channa Wijesekara donated Six Technological books written and published by him, to Richmond College-Galle, Nagoda Central College and Richard Pathirana Central school and to University of Ruhuna.
The event is the brainchild of Mr.P S Pushpakumara, Principal of Richmond College aiming at developing the interest of students in extensively engaged in new technologies coming into the industry and provide them with gainful employment after completing the studies in the technology stream. Technical exhibition was held simultaneously exhibiting the new innovations of students.
Richmond students, Bomal De Silva- President, Sathindu Dulsath- Vice President, Dehan Desandu- Secretary, Hirusha Alwis- Vice Secretary, Nadil Savijaya- Treasurer, Dulsara Nanayakkara- Chief Organizer, Pasindu Sathsara, Kaushika Pramod- Assistant Organizers, Pasan Pinsara, Lakindu Maneth, Nemitha Dulaj, Umela Malhara, Devin Tashminda, Dasun Nethsara- Coordinators, who are office bearers of the Richmond College Technological Society, made all arrangements of the event.
The event was further strengthened by the “Industrial Awareness Visit” by 69 Richmond Technology stream students together with 3 Teachers to state of the Art , Leema factory at Dompe on Monday 7th August, 2023.
The students were taken to different divisions of Leema factory and they experienced the real working conditions of the factory.
They observed the working of ultra-modern, fully automated machines inclusive of Computer Numerically Controlled (C.N.C.), router drill, Programmable Logic Control (P.L.C.) machines such as Edge banders, Saw mills and Chemical treatment vacuum-pressure chambers, Timber drying kilns etc. They also observed the production of ultra-modern furniture manufactured for Foreign Direct investors and Corporate sector.
The students also visited the Metal workshop, Aluminium Fabrication unit, Upholstery division, Furniture finishing division of the Factory.
The students were fascinated with this new experience and thanked Chairman and Officials of Leema Creations (Pvt.) Limited for the opportunity given to them. Leema Creations provided the Breakfast and Lunch to these students. After lunch they proceeded to Katunayaka Airport for observing repairs to Aircrafts.
