SLIIT unveils first local MSc in Network Engineering to empower next generation of tech leaders
View(s):Aligned with the commitment to delivering industry-relevant education and producing highly skilled professionals, SLIIT has unveiled the first local Master of Science in Network Engineering programme, helping students to thrive in the dynamic field and drive technological innovation.
With the ever-increasing demand for skilled network engineers and the rapid advancement of networking technologies, SLIIT recognises the need to cultivate a new generation of tech leaders who can navigate the complexities of modern networking systems. The 2-year comprehensive degree, recognised by University Grants Commission, aims to address this demand by providing students with a wide-ranging curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience. The students must also submit a Research Project at the end of the second year.
This programme meets the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SQQF) Level 10 and covers a wide range of topics. Students will acquire knowledge and be at the forefront of advancing and innovating new paradigms for hardware and software systems, including networking, virtualization, network management, and security.
The program also integrates professional and recognised industry certification courses, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Red Hat Linux, Cloud (AWS, Azure), EMC2, and Enterprise-level DevOps
training.
By combining academic excellence with practical training and industry certifications, SLIIT’s Master of Science in Network Engineering programme equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their careers and become valuable contributors to the field of network engineering and information infrastructure technologies.

After completing a Master of Science in Network Engineering, graduates have a wide range of career opportunities in various sectors, including in areas of management and consultancy – computing, network security, cloud service providers, electronics, manufacturing, defence, robotics, etc.
Potential career paths for individuals with a Master of Science in Network Engineering – network engineer, network administrator, network architect, system analyst, project manager, IT consultant, system engineer, researcher, DevOps engineer, NetOps engineer, etc.
Interested candidates seeking admission for the Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Information Systems must possess a BSc in Engineering degree from a university recognised by the University Grants Commission or hold a BSc in Engineering degree from SLIIT or any other professional qualifications equivalent to the above in addition to a minimum of one year of experience in a related field. An attractive 10% discount is applicable for SLIIT students. Upon completion of the degree, students can pursue PhD courses at SLIIT in Computing and Engineering fields.
