Equestrian Mathilda Karlsson to face ‘period of ineligibility’
Mathilda Karlsson, the Swedish-Sri Lankan high profile athlete who represented Sri Lanka in equestrian at Tokyo Olympics as an individual rider, is believed to face a period of ineligibility after breaching an Anti-Doping Rule Violation.
Karlsson, who turned out for Sri Lanka with her thoroughbred Chopin VA at the Tokyo Olympics, was the first athlete to earn direct qualification for the 2020 games. However, the 38-year-old athlete faces the consequences of an Anti-Doping Rule Violation.
She may have to forego competitions for a period of 19 months, an ineligibility period, stemming from a breach of protocol specifically on three missed tests on Nov 21, 2021, Aug 24, 2022 and Nov 20, 2022.
Her provisional suspension began on June 15 this year and Karlsson may stay out during the period of ineligibility, which extends resolutely until January 14, 2025.
