View(s):Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Imitiaz Bakeer Markar’s latest book “Sithamu” was launched on Thursday at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena attending the event.
The book, a collection of Mr Bakeer Markar’s weekly column to Divaina newspaper, analyses socio-political and economic issues facing the people of Sri Lanka from a social justice perspective.
Mr Bakeer Markar told the large gathering that attended the event that his intention was to entice people to reflect deeply on issues. The book also tries to achieve national harmony, he said, pointing out that the title Sithamu comes from the first letters of the three main communities in Sri Lanka — Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslims. The book has been published by Godage publishers.
