Japanese artist displays Lankan-inspired artworks
View(s):Ambassador E Rodney M Perera visited the solo exhibition of paintings depicting Sri Lanka by Toshiro Kurihara, a 90-year-old Japanese artist who worked as a primary school teacher. The exhibition, hosted at Gallery Bian in Ginza, is open for public viewing from August 8 to 13.
Mr Kurihara’s exhibition is testimony to his admiration for Sri Lanka, inspired and supported by his son, Dr Shunsuke Kurihara, Associate Professor at Utsunomiya University, who resided in the country for 13 years. During his stay, Shunsuke explored Sri Lanka’s landscapes and cultures extensively, capturing their essence through his camera lens. These captured moments served as inspiration for Toshiro Kurihara’s artwork. Ambassador Perera expressed his appreciation for Mr Kurihara’s dedication to bridging cultures through his art.
