Federation University Team visits NCHS
View(s):Associate Professor Jason Giri, Dean, Global Professional School and Ms. Melissa Staley, Manager, International Student Recruitment, Global Professional School, Federation University, visited NCHS to spend time with the staff and students.
Focused on the Student Experience
“Federation is the 3rd oldest university in Australia, with a long history. It is also the leading regionally based university. Because of these two factors, there is a strong student focus and we are focused on giving students the best student experience” explained Assoc. Prof. Jason Giri. He added that along with the exceptional student experience, the university is also well known for several academic areas. “We have strong research in Health Sciences and health, we are also very good in informational technology, as well as in renewable energy”. He also said that the university is renowned for a high teaching quality.
“Federation is in the top 250 young universities in the world globally” Ms. Staley said. She explained that the rankings are associated with the student experience. “For example, the university is ranked number 01 for student support as well as number 01 in Voctoria for employability after graduation”.
Large international student population
With a strong and vibrant international student population, Assoc. Prof. Giri said that there are students from over 100 countries in the world studying at Federation. “The actual proportion of international students is around 30%” he stated. Ms. Staley added that enormous support is given to the international students. “All the support services are given free of charge.” She also said that services range from extra support for academics to even transitioning to Australia.
One degree: two qualifications
It was explained that transferring to Australia from NCHS has many benefits. “Transferring through Nawaloka College is an incredible opportunity. You can start a diploma here and get a full year of credit, entering into the 2nd year of an undergraduate degree at Federation. That’s one year here (in Sri Lanka), and 2 years at Federation. When you graduate you have two qualifications; a higher national diploma and a bachelor’s degree!” Ms. Staley said.
Study in Sri Lanka or transfer to Australia
As the newest partner to the NCHS network, students can now enroll directly at Federation University, and start their education from the comfort and safety of Sri Lanka. On completion of the pathway in Sri Lanka, students can then transfer to Australia, thereby gaining the best of both worlds.
The Bachelor of Business will offer majors in Management and Marketing, while the Bachelor of Information Technology allows students to specialise in either Software Development or Business Information Systems. Options are also available for students opting to follow path in Health Science, Engineering and IT.
All Federation University degrees are fully recognised by the University Grant Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka.
