Adheesha Dissanayake of Gateway College continued to dominate his supremacy in scrabble in Sri Lanka after winning the Under-18 All-Island Age Group Scrabble Championship. He was undefeated in both the zonals and the finals.

Last weekend he won the Sri Lanka Open Scrabble Championship convincingly. He finished ahead of three former winners with two wins ahead of the second placed player. At the Open, which is primarily an adult event, there were two separate awards for the Best Player Under-18 and Best Player Under-15. Even though he was qualified to receive both, he did not receive them as he was recognised to be the overall winner.

The Under-15 award went to Inam Irshad, also of Gateway College, and his brother Ilham Irshad won a rating band prize. Ilham and Adheesha were part of the Sri Lankan team that won the Best Team award at last year’s Wespa Youth Cup, the World Youth Scrabble Championships.
