Royal College crowned Western Province TT champs
View(s):Royal College table tennis once again emerged champions in Under-20 and Under-16 titles and became Under-18 runners-up at the Western Province National School Games Table Tennis Tournament held at the Indoor Stadium in Bandaragama.
Royal beat Ananda College 3-0 in the Under-20 final, and 3-0 in the Under-16 final. Ananda claimed the Under-18 title beating Royal 3-2 after a hard fought game, in the tournament where over 25 schools and 150s boys took part.
Royal College are the defending champions in All-Island Table Tennis Tournament in Under-18 and Under-16 age categories while Ananda is the title holder of Under-20 age group. Early this year, they were crowned the Under-19 and Under-18 champions at the All-Island Inter-School Tournament in the coveted ‘A’ Division, once again beating Ananda.
The coaches of the winning teams were Nuwan Sampath and Lalindu Chathuranga while the teams were managed and guided by Assistant Principal and Senior Games Master, M.A.M. Riyaz.
