Circular on Principals promotions issued by Edu Director withdrawn by Edu minister
View(s):A controversial circular issued by the Central Province Education Director to suspend promotions of principals where students fail to perform well at the GCE (O/L) examination has been withdrawn.
The move followed a directive from Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.
Minister Premajayantha told Parliament on Thursday that he was alerted about a newspaper report on the circular and immediately contacted the director.
He said that the Education Director has no powers to issue such circulars and only could issue directives on administrative matters.
The circular also went on to announce an incentive for teachers if students perform well at the O/L exams.
However, Minister Premajayantha assured that he would be calling for a virtual meeting of Education Directors and instruct them not to issue such circulars.
