The utility and popularity of the MPA-EM programme (Master of Public Administration degree programme in Education Management) innovatively introduced by the Postgraduate Institute of management (PIM) was further endorsed by the Ministry of Education , as another   batch of educationists was enrolled for the 3rd programme that commenced on August 18, 2023. Education being the foundation of a country’s socio-economic fabric  the PIM’s intervention in elevating the country’s education system to further heights, is indeed, a prime social responsibility.   The initiation of the programme was the direct outcome of an MOU entered into between the PIM and the Ministry of Education.

Mr. Nihal Ranasinghe, Secretary, Ministry of Education, who graced the launching ceremony  of the 3rd programme profusely thanked the PIM for its initiative, and taking the lead-role to fill the competency gaps that hitherto existed in the Ministry’s overall administrative structure.

The MPA-EM programme also serves as an entry-level qualification to further the career pursuits of educationists.  It is thus an efficiency-bar in their career development. Mr. Ranasinghe thus insisted that the participant need to put in their very best firstly to improve themselves, and secondly and most importantly to improve the country’s education-management. He further said that the Ministry has to bear a heavy cost in adopting and implementing such a protracted programme.

Dr. Senaka Kelum Gamage, Director, PIM, addressing the participants emphasised that the PIM has been able to raise the level of education management through its MPA-EM programme, and for all intents and purposes, it could be considered as an efficiency bar for the Ministry’s Educationists. As the objective of management is to regulate and optimise the human and physical resources, Dr. Gamage foresaw an overall change in educational management thru the PIM’s pioneering initiative. His concluding remarks were that the PIM’s MPA-EM programme will have far reaching consequences, as its outcome will ultimately be inspirational to its participants and impactful to the country’s education at large.

Mr. Nihal Ranasinghe, Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Senaka Kelum Gamage, Director, PIM, Faculty and participants posed for a photograph at the conclusion of the Inaugural Ceremony

Mr. Jayantha Newunhella, Coordinator, Specialised Programmes, PIM, emphasised that the acme of the programme is the need to complete a guided independent study by the participants. This, in fact, is the terminal benefit of the entire programme, which rests on the theoretical, conceptual and pragmatic components of the course. Mr. Lalith Weeratunge and Mr. Jithendra Gunatilaka, two members of the Faculty involved in the conduct of the programme, also attended this event.
