Gateway offers more choices at Advanced Level
In a world where career opportunities are rapidly evolving there is no single educational pathway that suits all students. Gateway College is proud to offer the largest and the most comprehensive selection of educational choices – so that parents and students can choose the best education programme for academic growth and success.
The options available for the students after OL/IGCSE at Gateway are:
4 Advanced Level subjects
n 3 Advanced Level subjects and Level 4 Diploma in Computing (equivalent to the first year of a UK/Australian University degree programme in Computing/IT)
n 3 Advanced Level subjects and Level 4 Diploma in Business (equivalent to the first year of a UK/Australian University degree programme in Business-related subjects)
n 3 A Level subjects and ATCL Diplomas in Performing
n 2 Advanced Level subjects and the Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Sport
n Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education
n The International Foundation Programme as an alternative to the traditional Als
The range of subjects offered at Advanced Level Science, Business and Humanities sectors include Mathematics, Further Math, Pure Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business, Accounting, Computer Science, English Literature, Geography, Psychology and Law. They have been arranged in a way where even uncommon combinations of subjects can be taken to suit the students’ future careers. Gateway strongly encourages the students who wish to pursue demanding careers such as Medicine and Engineering to study four AL subjects.
Gateway Pathways
Students taking the option of 3 Advanced Level subjects along with a Diploma in Computing or Business can fast track their degree studies, whereby they will be able to directly join the second year of study in a prestigious International University or complete their full degree programme in Sri Lanka. At present, progression opportunities are available with universities in Australia, UK, USA, Canada, Republic of Ireland, Singapore and Malaysia. Students also have the option of completing their full degree studies in Sri Lanka within a shortened period of time with the Universal College Lanka (UCL).
The International Foundation Programme is available as an alternative to the traditional ALs for those who wish to join our degree pathway programmes immediately after OL/IGCSEs while still studying as full-time students at a Gateway school.
Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education
Gateway offers the Australian Secondary Certificate of Education (equivalent of IGCSE & AL) through SACE International. This provides students an alternative to the UK International General Certificate of Secondary Education and A levels route. SACE is not just another universally accepted qualification but a programme that takes a divergent approach, which is flexible and student-centred where continuous assessments play a key role.
Stage 2, the A Level equivalent of the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) is a modern, up-to-date secondary school qualification designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and personal capabilities to successfully participate in our fast-paced global society. The SACE is overseen by the SACE Board, a statutory authority of the South Australian Government. SACE is a globally recognised pre-university programme that provides entry into the world’s top universities.
Exposure to a rounded education
Whichever option they select, all Gateway students have access to a wide range of sports and co-curricular activities. It is mandatory that all Advanced Level students complete the Founder’s Award – an empowering, noncompetitive programme that takes place in Year 12. Considered under four areas – Volunteering, Internship, Skills and Sport and Adventure (VISA), the Award lets students set their own goals, develop what they already do and discover their passion on aspects never explored before. Furthermore, the workshops on soft skills development (VSAK – Values, Skills, Attitude and Knowledge) offered to all AL students prepare them for university and the workplace.
The schools’ Career Counselling and Guidance Units offer extensive support in securing University placements and academic scholarships. The specialised, one on one support each student receives helps each student to build a firm foundation for their chosen career paths.
The firm, friendly and fair environment that prevails within the schools helps Gateway students receive the finest global education within our unique cultural heritage.
Scholarships
Gateway’s policy regarding scholarships is to reward its own students who reach outstanding heights in academics, sports and co-curricular activities; and to offer a few deserving students who wish to join the school, having exceeded the criteria laid down for Gateway’s own students. In this respect, limited scholarships are on offer to students who have excelled in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. From this year, two new scholarships, donated by an alumnus of Gateway for students who are all-rounders are also available.
