Vavuniya University partners with MAG to help staff transition as SL becomes mine free

The University of Vavuniya formed a partnership with Mines Advisory Group (MAG) to strengthen the implementation of the staff transition strategy, and support the local community in the Northern Province.

The partnership is focused on creating a space where the University supports MAG in the implementation of staff transition activities in order to prepare MAG staff for new careers after the redundancy programme has taken place due to Sri Lanka becoming landmine free.

MAG will reach out to the University for specific training programmes that are required, and the University will inform MAG about potential opportunities for MAG employees in the Northern Province.

The University will benefit through increased exposure to activities and programmes among MAG staff.

MAG will assess the possibility of supporting the University with internship placements for students. The partnership for MAG will focus on the University to be the sole supplier for the implementation of the staff transition programme, without any monetary value.

The Industry and Community Interaction Cell (ICIC) of the Business Studies Faculty of the University of Vavuniya will facilitate the engagement between the university and MAG.

MAG Country Director Cristy McLennan, Skills Development Specialist T Senthoran and other MAG officials, joined University of Vavuniya Vice Chancellor Prof T Managaleswaran, Dean/Business Studies Faculty Prof Y Nanthagopan and Coordinator/ICIC S Sivanenthira in signing the agreement.
