The review process of the objections filed against would-be beneficiaries of the first ‘Aswesuma’ list is expected to be finalised in October, Welfare Board chairman Jayantha Wijerathne told the Sunday Times.

“Once the Divisional Secretaries review the objections, the potential beneficiaries will receive the relevant sum to their accounts,” he said.

Furthermore, he said, that around 500,000 new bank accounts were recently opened, and they are scheduled to receive the sum within the next week.

He said that if any of the current beneficiaries were at fault for providing inaccurate information, for instance, they would reclaim the benefit. “This has already been made known to the beneficiaries,” he said.

Divisional and Assistant Divisional Secretaries Association president Ranjan Perera said that due to technical complications, the process is going very slow, but they are carrying out their duties.

State banks were open on August 28 despite being a Poya day for the beneficiaries to receive the payment.

According to State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe, Rs. 4.395 billion has been transferred to the bank accounts of 689,803 beneficiaries.
