The much-awaited curtain raiser matches of the Ball Blaster Islandwide Schools Football Championship kicked off with grandeur last week at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo. Organised by the Sri Lankan Schools Football Association and powered by Sri Lankan Sports TV, this championship promises to redefine school football across the nation.

In the first exhilarating match of the tournament, Zahira College beat Baduirya College Mawanella 1-, followed by the second game where last year’s champions, St. Joseph College overcame Hameed Al Husseine College 2-1 after a fierce battle.

The tournament marks a pivotal moment as TV1 took over the media partnership, ensuring comprehensive coverage and engagement with football followers. Furthermore, Orbit Sri Lanka has proudly secured the Sports Equipment partnership, contributing to the seamless execution of this prestigious championship.

Enthusiastic about the potential of the tournament, the organisers anticipate a significant boost to schools football through the active involvement of Sri Lankan Sports TV. The championship is divided into three categories, adding to its inclusivity and reach.

The Division I features 20 top football playing schools while the Division II includes 80 schools from across the island. The Women’s Division I features 16 schools from different corners of the nation. Overall a staggering number of 116 schools partake in this extraordinary event, competing in over 250 matches that will unfold over the course of the next two months.

This championship serves as a platform for young talents to display their skills and passion for football on a national stage. All stakeholders involved are optimistic about the success of the Ball Blaster Islandwide Schools Football Championship. With its comprehensive coverage, strategic partnerships, and fervent participation from schools, this championship is poised to become a landmark event in the realm of Sri Lankan school football.
