Two scarves and a sarong inspired by two Keyt paintings
View(s):They were probably two of the most Sri Lankan paintings done by George Keyt- in hues redolent of Kandyan countryside- and now they have become the inspiration for two scarves and a sarong- coming in limited editions- ready to brush off some truly Lankan ethnic chic on you.
The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art
Sri Lanka and Selyn Handicrafts came together to create these wearables. Sharmini Pereira, Chief Curator of MMCA Sri Lanka and Selyna Peiris, Director of Selyn got three designers from the handicrafts store to research the fabrics inspired by the two paintings, The Kandyan Bride and The Offering.
The result is three pieces that capture the spirit of Dumbara weaving and temple art. Wearable by both genders, these collectibles are “not only exquisitely made but conceptually rooted in the stories that are part of this country’s art history” promises Sharmini.
