St. Joseph Vaz College wins North Western Provincial Championship
St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa emerged champions of the North Western Provincial Games of the CBL Samaposha Provincial School Games 2023, held at the Albert Peiris Stadium in Wennappuwa. Kuliyapitiya Central secured the runner-up position, as both schools advanced to the national stage.
Marking the beginning of the CBL Samaposha Provincial School Games 2023, the North Western Provincial Games took place at the Albert Peiris Stadium, Wennappuwa from August 15 to 18. The Uva Provincial Tournament, the second sports festival of the Provincial School Games, was held at the Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla last week.
In 2015, the ‘Samposha Provincial School Games’ commenced with an aim to empower the North Central Province. Today, the Games have spread across five provinces namely the North Western, East, Uva, North Central and Southern. Through the Games more than 18,000 children from 650 schools have the opportunity to demonstrate their sports skills.
Through the Samaposha ‘Dinana Daruwo’ programme, the company prioritises improving children’s educational skills, sports skills, nutrition, creativity and good values. Aligned to these objectives, the Samaposha Provincial School Games, is a special feature, organised to improve the physical and mental health and sports skills of future generations.
The sole purpose of the CBL Samaposha 2023 Provincial School Sports League is to strengthen school athletes in
Sri Lanka, promote their mental health and physical fitness to produce athletes who can win international fame for the nation.
Muditha Jayathilaka, the Director of Education, North Western Province, W.M.H.K Abeykoon, the Deputy Director of Education — Health, Physical Education, North Western Province, Sachi Fernando, the Sales General Manager, CBL Food Cluster, V.P. Govinna, the Marketing Manager, CBL Food Cluster and Sisira Gunawardena, the Senior Promotion and Activities Manager, CBL Food Cluster graced the awards ceremony.
