Tuition teacher remanded for pointing laser at magistrate

A tuition teacher who held a laser beam at Kaduwela Magistrate Chanima Wijebandara during a court session has been remanded until September 27.
The suspect, Janith Dias, was arrested on a complaint lodged by the court’s registrar.
Police carried out a search on the suspect and found a laser torch in his possession.
The suspect was produced in court. His lawyer claimed that according to his parents, he was suffering from a mental illness and that the relevant medical reports could be submitted.
The magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded until September 27 and called for a report from the Mental Health Institute on the suspect’s mental condition.
