Ananda, Ladies excel at Shakespeare drama contest
View(s):The finals of the 48th All-Island Shakespeare Competition, an initiative of the Rotary Club of Colombo North in partnership with the Colombo YMCA, took place at the Bishops College Auditorium on the 27th and yesterday. Schools taking part delivered nothing less than stellar performances, keeping the ongoing tradition alive.
The girls’ finals were held first on Wednesday in the presence of chief guest Pubudu De Zoysa and judges Tanya Warnakulasuriya, Eraj De Silva and Andrew Fowler-Watt. The finalists were (in order of performance) St. Nicholas International – Negombo, Visaka Vidyala, Ladies’ College and Devi Balika Vidyalaya. The title of All-Island Winners was secured by Ladies’ College with a modern adaptation of scenes from Taming of the Shrew. Hiruki Nesakya Dahanayake of Devi Balika Vidyalaya was adjudged the best actress and the best supporting actress award went to Sanethri Munasinhahage of Gateway College, Dehiwala. The finals of the Boys’ category took place yesterday. Present at the event were chief guest Jehan Aloysius and judges Tanya Warnakulasuriya, Shanuki De Alwis and Mokshini Jayamanne.

Ananda College emerged victorious as the All-Island Winners for delivering an emotional performance of Macbeth. The Best Actor award was shared by Meyon Fernando from St. Thomas’ International College and Haritha Gamage from Ananda College. The best-supporting actor title was awarded to Nuhan Gunasekara from D.S. Senanayake College.
