Senior journalist and Editor Edmund Ranasinghe to be felicitated
View(s):A felicitation ceremony for senior journalist and Editor Edmund Ranasinghe will be held on Tuesday, October 3, at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The launch of the book Edmundge Paththara Viplawaya (Edmund’s Newspaper Revolution) will also take place.
The keynote address will be delivered by senior journalist and former Editor Upali Tennakoon.
Born on April 14, 1930 at Bellaire Estate in Puwakpitiya, Mr Ranasinghe entered journalism in 1952 as a sub-editor of the Lake House-owned Daily News. He later went onto work as a News Editor at the Janatha newspaper under Editor Denzil Peiris.
In 1973 he left the Lake House group in protest against the government over takeover of the group. Later he worked as the Editor of the “Sinhala Buddhaya” paper. Prior to 1977 he was also in charge of UNP publications.
After 1977 he took over the position of Editor in Chief of the Dinamina paper.
Mr Ranasinghe later served as the Editor-in-Chief of multiple newspapers including the Irida Divaina, Divaina, and The Island.
In 2015 he took over as the consultant editor of the Lake House group. He has also authored several books.
