Artra: Saying it with cartoons
It’s time to celebrate our caustic caricaturists! From the droll pen of Aubrey Collette to Bevis Bawa’s elegant, long limbed doodles and Gihan de Chickera’s clever political puns–the Artra magazine’s new issue will be all about comics and cartoons from a gracious Ceylon to a more chaotic age.
This edition will coincide with the experiential art festival honing in on the Bawa brothers, their magic woven into two gardens- but focusing on Brief, where the green man smiles and there’s a contrast to Lunuganga, more serene and subtle…
The roundup from October13 to 15 happens at Brief, Bentota and the Bentota Beach Hotel, and will feature unique art and garden tours, art talks and exhibits, an art healing workshop and lots of discussions on the cartoonists and caricaturists.
The festival will feature a line-up of vibrant speakers: C. Anjalendran, Juliet Coombe, Cresside Collette (Aubrey’s daughter), Chevaan Daniel, Gihan de Chickera, Dooland de Silva, Priscilla Caren, Rachel Chanmugam, James Balmond, Rohan de Soysa and Herman Gunaratne.
A children’s festival will also happen on Sunday, the 15th. The full programme and ticket prices are available on Artra.lk.
