Gratiaen’s children’s lit workshops
View(s):The Gratiaen Trust Lanka will hold an exciting series of storytelling workshops in celebration of Children’s Day which falls today.
Presented in association with the John Keells Foundation and the British Council, the workshops will be conducted by well known British author and storyteller, Sita Brahmachari.
The Trust will also be hosting its second session of the Gratiaen Trust Young Writers Club on October 7 with Gratiaen Prize-winning author Yudhanjaya Wijeratne.
‘Writing Into Childhood’ – a masterclass for authors of children’s literature on October 15 at the Lakmahal Community Library, Colombo, will explore magic realism, oral history, character development and more that shapes stories for children. The workshop is targeted at published authors in English, Sinhala and Tamil and will be conducted in English.
‘Writing Treasure Hunt’ is a workshop targeting young writers between 12 and 16 years of age. In this workshop, Sita will take them on an imaginative treasure hunt and uncover storytelling tricks that will empower them to weave magic with words. It will be held on October 14 at the British Council Library, Colombo.
In their Voice – Teaching Narrative Writing is a workshop for teachers of English literature (‘O’ and ‘A’ levels) based in schools in the Galle District where Sita will share techniques that will help their students find their creative voice. This event is for teachers nominated by the Dept. of Education, Southern Province.
Finding Your Voice – a practical and fun workshop for A’ level English Language and Literature students in Galle is for students nominated from within the Galle District.
