A career in early childhood education and care is an incredibly fulfilling job that will allow you to make an ongoing impact for the rest of a child’s life. It is cut out to be a job for females – young women with maternal instincts, mothers to be and young mothers. This is one of the very few females dominated professions, thus not subjected to gender pay gaps visible in most other professions. In this field, you will have the opportunity to play a vital role in the lives of your students as they develop, realise their own potential and become self-sufficient.  It is a rewarding and a fulfilling career which is enjoyable as you work with innocent minds to see them through the most crucial period of a child’s early positive development.

Early childhood (Preschool) teachers are one of the top 20 in demand jobs in Australia. In Australia in the year 2021, over 216,000 staff were employed in the early childhood education and care sector. 92% of the EC Teachers are young females. Most – 85%, have an early childhood education and care qualification at a bachelor degree level. According to Labour Market Insights, there’s expected to be a huge increase in early childhood educators in the country. In South Australia itself the state government is planning to give three-year children too access to preschool by 2026. These policies reveal a strong, growing demand for professionals in this sector. The average early childhood teacher salary in Australia at present is $80,378 per year whilst entry-level positions start at $74,287 per year. Most experienced teachers make up to $95,193 per year.

Early childhood teaching (ECT) is different to “childcare” work and also to Montessori teaching methods popular in USA. All other developed countries in the world adopt specialised EC education programmes. ECE involves teaching kids under eight – beginner literacy and numeracy skills.
