The finals of the 21st DSI Supersport School Volleyball Championship, held on September 23 and 24 at the Sugathadasa National Sports Indoor Stadium Complex in Colombo. This annual event, initiated by DSI in 1999, aims to provide a platform for talented volleyball players, both from urban and rural areas, to showcase their skills and nurture their careers at both national and international levels.

Since its inception in 1999, the championship’s primary objective has been to provide a platform for both rural and urban volleyball players to showcase their skills and advance their careers at national and international levels. Over the years, this tournament has contributed to the development of nearly 400 sports personalities, underscoring the growing popularity and significance of the DSI Supersport Volleyball Championship in the country.

This year’s championship featured a multi-tiered structure across various age categories, including Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 for boys and girls. The tournament began with district-level matches, followed by provincial and national levels. Teams securing the first and second places at the district level advanced to the provincial level. Provincial matches took place in July and August. Teams placing first, second, and third at the provincial level earned their spots at the national level, which unfolded in August and September.

This event reaffirms DSI’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent and instilling a strong sense of sportsmanship among the youth in Sri Lanka. DSI commended champions Divisamara National School, Seeduwa and Dammissara National School, Naththandiya for demonstrating exceptional skills and unwavering determination throughout the tournament. As volleyball continues to grow in popularity and draw a larger audience, DSI eagerly looks forward to witnessing even more remarkable sporting events in the years ahead.
