Sri Lanka at FIBA Asian U-16 Basketball Tournament in Doha

The Sri Lanka Under-16 national basketball team qualified for the FIBA Asian Under-16 Basketball Tournament which was held in Doha, Qatar from September 17 to 24, conducted by the Federation Internationale de Basketball Amateur (FIBA).

Prasad Samarathunga, the Principal of St. Joseph’s College, Grandpass, who was named as the team manager, said that the Under-16 national basketball team qualified for this through the South Asian Basketball Qualifier Tournament held in Colombo from August 28 to 31.

Tharindu Darshan Punandu was the Head coach, while Shane Romesh Daniel was the Assistant coach and the chef de Mission. W. Anthony Fernando, the team manager, Prasad Samaratunga, Physiotherapist, H.P.M. Indunil Shanta joined the contingent as officials.

The team, which had 16 players in the squad, was led by Anthony Darren Barnard of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo. Diluk Samarawickrama of Melbourne High School, was the vice captain. Others in the squad were Chanindu Mahima Wijesinghe, Dishan Adrian Wijewardene and Aaron Gerald of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, Ashnavi Bilal Shaffras and Dulaine James Thevarapperuma, both of Gateway College, Colombo, Anuk Sankalpa Peiris of Lyceum International School, Wattala, Praveen Bandara Herath of Colombo International School, Adriel Brayan de Soyza of Trinity College, Sudham Indivera Liyanage of Ananda College and Jude Akash Gnankan of St. Joseph’s College, Wattala.
