Country Roads: Fan favourites bring back sweet memories
View(s):It was a gig down memory lane to the Wild Wild West, “sweet Alabama” and the land of the Blue Ridge Mountains when the Country Roads concert swung into action, this time at a new venue – the Virticle by Jetwing on Saturday, October 7.
Full of energy and atmosphere, this long-running charity concert series which has continued for 35 years, saw the return of fan favourites, the Cosmic Rays, the Country Revival Band with Feizal and Jury, Astrid Brook from the UK and of course, the Mavericks from Germany.
The Cosmic Rays following tradition opened the show and then it was Astrid, lending her sweet and mellow tones against the high-rise Colombo setting, followed by Feizal and Jury with a classic selection.
The Mavericks packed a punch with their Bavarian high spirits, full of banter and cheek, and caused some footloose action, even drawing in the more staid members of the audience into clapping to the swinging sounds.
The successful bash was as always, in aid of children’s charities.
