Airmail to four countries suspended due to delay in signing deal with airline
View(s):The dispatch of airmail to four countries has been suspended due to a delay in signing an agreement with an international airline, a Postal Department senior official said.
Accordingly, the Postal Department has stopped sending airmail to Cypress, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Iran on this airline.
The agreement has been proposed following the installation of a new customs electronic import system known as ICS2. It is used to collect data about all goods entering a country and is designed to manage advanced safety and security risk analysis.
In terms of the agreement, when the ICS2 system becomes activated, the Postal Department has to take responsibility for airmail sent to the four countries.
The official said they had received the draft agreement from the airline, but the department’s legal officer had asked for calcification from it and was awaiting a response.
Until the matter is sorted out, the department has decided to temporarily hold back airmail to the four countries.
The department was conducting meetings with other airlines as a backup measure, the official said, adding that talks would be held with another airline next week.
