Popular Japanese Flautist Hisako Yoshikawa and pianist Chiho Akaishi performed at a dinner performance at the Foreign Correspondents Club in Tokyo last Wednesday (11) where the audience was treated to accounts by Yoshikawa of her visit to Sri Lanka.

During her talk she referred to former Sri Lankan President J. R. Jayewardene’s speech at the post World War peace conference in San Francisco in 1951 where he had spoken on behalf of the defeated Japanese nation. She spoke of the wonders of Sigiriya, how Sri Lankan dogs roam the streets freely, and how some of the local baby lullabies are similar to Japanese lullabies.

Attending the event was Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Japan Rodney Perera.
