RIC’s Encore’23: The Stars Take the Stage!
View(s):In a spectacular return for the second consecutive year, Royal Institute of Colombo brought back its much-celebrated talent show, under the name Encore’23 captivating audiences with a dazzling array of performances that ranged from comedic brilliance to breathtaking dance numbers and mesmerising solo and group singing. The highly anticipated event took place on Friday the 13th of October, at the university premises.
This year’s theme, inspired by the beloved musical “The Greatest Showman,” added a touch of magic to the evening. The students’ at RIC, known for their innovative approach, elevated the stakes by transforming the event into a prize-awarding competition, creating an electric atmosphere for participants and spectators alike.
A Bit of History and Giving Back to The Community!
The talent show, was originally conceived to foster a sense of community in a post-pandemic world, and has thus far proven to be a resounding success.
Building on the triumph of its predecessor, “Untapped ’22,” this event continues to provide a platform for students of various age groups and academic disciplines to unleash their hidden potential and set the night ablaze.
It is also worthy to note that the proceeds from this year’s event will be generously donated to the Apeksha Cancer Hospital, contributing to a noble cause, and adding a meaningful touch to the festivities.
Showstopping Performances and Stellar Winners!
The night belonged to “The Flaming Cheetos,” a Bollywood-inspired dance sensation that stole the spotlight and walked away with the coveted first-place. Amaan Fawzul-Haq and Suresha De Silva shared the title for second-place, while the dynamic duo of Pramodhya Sooriyabandara and Thamaasha Rathnayake secured a well-deserved third place.
Beyond the Stage: A Night of Extravagance!
Encore’23 was not just about captivating performances; it was a completely immersive experience. Attendees had the opportunity to explore a mini-market indulging in various snacks, beverages and even getting exquisite mehendi designs. The excitement continued into the night with an unforgettable after-party, featuring a DJ who kept the energy high, a truly rewarding experience for the participants and committee alike, after all the hard work put into making this event a success.
