A piano trio featuring impressionists by CMSC
View(s):The piano trio is an ensemble that has enthralled audiences for centuries. Comprising piano, violin and cello, this particular chamber music formation allows for a rich and dynamic interplay between the instruments, mostly, the piano serves as the backbone, providing harmonic support and melodic lines, while the violin and cello add depth and texture with their soaring melodies and expressive tones.
The Chamber Music Society of Colombo’s upcoming recital, “Music for Piano Trio,” features the trios of Gabriel Faure (Trio in D minor Op. 120) Niels Gade (Trio in F major, Op. 42) and Maurice Ravel’s ‘Pavane pour une infante défunte’ piano trio version. The recital will take place on Saturday, November 18 at 7 p.m. at the Goethe-Institut Hall in Colombo, and will be moderated by Lakshman Joseph-de Saram.
The performers for the evening will be principal musicians from the Chamber Music Society, Johann Pieris, piano, Lakshman Joseph-de Saram, violin, and Rochana Ramanayaka, cello.
“We are happy to bring this music to our Colombo audiences,” said the spokesperson for the Chamber Music Society of Colombo (CMSC). “The programme for the evening is sure to engage all audiences who appreciate the refined sounds of the impressionists, which will be further enhanced by the exceptional acoustics and intimate atmosphere of the Goethe-Institut hall.”
Unreserved tickets priced at Rs. 2000 are available at the Goethe Institut Library and the Department of Coffee bookstore. The Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka is the long-standing cultural partner of the CMSC.
