Rodney writes Henry Merrill’s adventurous cycling trip to London

Veteran writer and journalist Rodney Vidanapathirana’s latest book ‘Paapediyen Lankawe Sita Landanayata’ (From Sri Lanka to London by Bicycle) written based on Henry Merryl Fernando’s cycling journey is now available in market.
Rodney’s compilation was based on Merryl’s own log book recorded during his months long cycling journey.
“I went through the log book with Merryl and also there was an English book written about the historic journey. Additionally I picked up some interesting anecdotes about his journey from Merryl himself,” Rodney said explaining how he collected the materials to write the book. “Merryl had to go through some difficult experiences including tough climatic conditions like heat in the sandy deserts, rain, snow and also dangerous animals during his adventurous journey,” Rodney added.
According to the writer, Merryl even met muggers and there were times where his bicycle was robbed. Merryl ended his journey in London and interviewed by media including the BBC. Later he joined the British Royal Army and he is now settled in the United Kingdom. Published by Chandrakanthi Fernando, the book priced at Rs. 750 is now available in leading book shops.
