St. Joseph’s and Lumbini reach L/O finals
St. Joseph’s College and Lumbini Vidyalaya booked the two berths to the finals of the Schools Under-19 Division I Tier ‘A’ and Tier ‘B’ Limited Over Tournament respectively, after their wins in the semi-finals played yesterday.
St. Joseph’s beat De Mazenod College by 4 wickets while Lumbini overcame Ananda College by 48 runs in the two low scoring semi-final encounters played at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona and at Campbell Place respectively.
In the Tier ‘A’ encounter, De Mazenod, put into bat, lost their top five wickets with the score on 96 in the 31st over, and the late order failed to make any impression, which ended in them losing the remaining five wickets for the addition of 37 runs. Eventually they were bowled out for 128 runs.
The Josephians, despite going through some anxious moments, losing their top four wickets on 47 in the 11th over, recovered to complete their run chase. Top scorer Maanasa Madubashana and Rishma Amarasinghe rescued the side with on a valuable 52-run stand for the fifth wicket, which helped the Josephians reach the target in the 34th over. Lumbini, on the other hand pulled off a 48-run win over fancied Ananda in the Tier ‘B’ semi-final played at Campbell Place to book the berth in the final after over two decades. Lumbini batted first and posted a modest total of 188 runs.
Ananda, in their run chase, were bowled out Ananda for 140 runs.
