Freehold deeds for licensed landowners on Independence Day 2024
View(s):Yesterday, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said the 2024 Budget proposal to grant freehold deeds to licensed landowners will take place island-wide in parallel with the Independence Day celebrations on February 4, next year.
President Wickremesinghe made these remarks at the Special District Coordination Committee (DCC) meeting held yesterday, at the Matale District Secretariat.
The President said the Rs. ten million allocated to a specific regional secretariat was dedicated to developing villages under the upcountry development programme. It would persist for the next five years.
The President said in every DCC meeting, expenses were mentioned but officials did not present new proposals for revenue collection in the district. He said the focus should also be on new revenue generation to solve the economic problems in the country.
In line with this, the President highlighted the potential for transforming the Matale district into an agricultural hub. He explained the necessity of executing the programme through a well-structured plan, emphasising the collaborative efforts of the people and private sector.
During this meeting the President facilitated
solutions to many long-standing issues in the district that had not been solved. The meeting was also attended by the Matale district’s political authorities and Government officials.
