Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS), the governing body of motor sports in Sri Lanka, has finalised arrangements to conduct the Nippon Paint Katukurunda Speed 2023 motor racing event on December 2 and 3, which will be held for the third successive year at the Katukurunda Track.

The organisers are expecting the participation of over 100 of the top most drivers in Sri Lanka for the 16 events that have been planned to be held exclusively for cars. The importance this year will be the participation of internationally renowned driver Dilantha Malagamuwa, who will be taking part in a motor racing meet at Katukurunda after a lapse of 20 years. He will be riding the vehicle of another ace driver Ashan Silva, who will not be in the fray.

“We are very happy to return as the title sponsor of this major event and looked forward to the motor racing event. There is no doubt that with huge spectator interest in this meet and also in the live coverage that will be shown it will definitely take motor racing to greater heights and interest,” Nemantha Abeysinghe, the General Manager of Nippon Paints, the main sponsor of the event, stated.

“We are proud and happy to conduct this prestigious event, which is looked forward to by the top drivers for the third successive year. It’s going to be a great day for the drivers and we would like to thank Nippon Paint and other sponsors who joined us with the aim of making this event a success,” SLAS President Ashhar Hameem said.

SLAS and its member clubs are hopeful that improved domestic conditions will give an opportunity for the return of a full calendar of motor sports in 2024 and will be looking forward to working closely with relevant officials and other stakeholders to spell out details of future plans.
