The Gemmologists Association of Sri Lanka (GASL) is organising a three-day event under the theme “Traditional Jewellery of Sri Lanka” to be held at the Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo from December 15-17 in collaboration with the National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA).

In addition to the NGJA, the event is also supported by the Export Development Board (EDB), and Sri Lanka Tourism.

The main objectives of “Jewels 2023″ are to promote the Sri Lankan gem and jewellery trade and to expand the local trade into the international market.

The initiative also aims to enhance tourism in Sri Lanka and to provide an understanding of gems and jewellery for both enthusiasts and professionals.

As part of the activities, a Gemological Research symposium will be held at the OPA premises in collaboration with NGJA, offering a platform for academics, postgraduate students and researchers from government and private institutes to showcase their research findings across diverse multidisciplinary fields.

On December 15 at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Jewels Talk, an exclusive lecture series, will be held featuring local and international gemologists.

On display at the event will be an array of jewellery from traditional to modern, highlighting that jewellery had been a major element of history and culture.

A fashion show will take place on December 15, showcasing a fantastic modern jewellery collection as well as traditionally recreated jewellery.

A Jewels Tour Package will also be on offer from December 14-18. This innovative concept marries exploration with elegance. Created in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourist Board, this package unveils the country’s finest destinations. Travellers with a penchant for gems and jewellery can make December memorable by selecting this unique tour. It includes not only a visit to the Jewels exhibition but also an opportunity to discover Sri Lanka’s wonders.

The event will include jewels awards and a gem and jewellery competition on December 17.
