Ace Capital spinners Wanuju Sahan and Roshan Jayatissa spun a web around the Chilaw Marians batters, sharing 18 wickets between them in their Major League Tournament match to lead them to a resounding 140-run win at Welisara yesterday.

The former Sri Lanka U-19 all-rounder Sahan, however was the star of the match as he contributed both with the bat and ball. After his 60 in the first innings to propel his side to 272, the left-arm spinner finished with figures of 5 for 56 as he combined with Jayatissa (3/83) and Puwantha Weerasinghe (2/26) to bowl hosts out for 188.

With a handsome first innings lead of 84 runs, the winners added further 202 runs for the loss of nine wickets to give hosts a challenging chase of 287 to win. Resuming from their overnight score of 78-5, Kavindu Amantha top scored with 57 while skipper Harsha Cooray added 54 not out with Sahan’s quick-fire 35 to post a formidable total, before Sahan and Jayatissa destroyed Chilaw Marians’ batting order ruthlessly.

Sahan claimed 5 for 47 to finish with a match bag of 10 for 103 while Jayatissa scalped 5 for 78 to return match figures of 8 for 161. For the home team Raveen Yasas hit a best of 61 in the first innings while Thikshila de Silva made 40.
