Former Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews and star allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga have been listed among the registered players among a total of 1,166 players for the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, which is set to take place in Dubai on December 19.

Mathews’ name is among the list 25 players registered for the upcoming auction with a base price of Indian Rupees 2 crore, while Hasaranga, who was released by his former franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, is registered among the top 20 players with a base price of Indian Rupees 1.5 crore.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who turned out for Punjab Kings in the previous IPL, and Dasun Shanaka, who appeared for Gujarat Titans, were released by their respective franchises ahead of the upcoming auction.

Top World Cup performers Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra are among the global names seeking to find a franchise in the 10-team league. Josh Hazlewood, who is doubtful for a part of the league, has also submitted his name. Among the 1,166 players, 830 are Indian players, with 336 being overseas players. The list incorporates 212 capped, 909 uncapped, and 45 Associate players.

Among registered are players from South Africa, West Indies, Ireland, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, Scotland, UAE and the USA. The only franchise to retain its two Sri Lankan players is Chennai Super Kings, led by former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. The two retained are young and aspiring fast bowler with a sling action Matheesha Pathirana and spinning allrounder Maheesh Theekshana, who contributed to the current title holders with their bowling prowess.

According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has requested franchises to respond with additional player requests, if any, not listed on the Auction Register. The requested players will be automatically included in the auction if they are eligible and interested.

Franchisees have also been instructed to respond with a list of players from the register that they would like to be included in the auction, with a reminder that only 77 slots are to be filled, of which a maximum of 30 can be overseas players.
