Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) and Nations Trust Bank (NDB) inked a five-year agreement where both entities will focus more on the aspect of developing golf at different levels, including grassroots. NTB, who partnered RCGC to conduct the Nations Trust Golf Championship prior to the covid pandemic era, will continue to offer their assistance for the next five years, leading up to 2028.

RCGC, which boasts of a heritage of 144 years, will hope to celebrate its 150th anniversary in fashion as NTB expects to become part of the historic milestone in 2030 according to Sanjaya Senarath, the Chief Marketing Officer of NTB.

“We engaged with RCGC in response to the positive feedback we received from the golfing community following the tournament we hosted early this year. This partnership will allow us to offer an enjoyable experience to our customers and guests and we look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership,” Senarath said.

One of the key areas both RCGC and NTB aim to cover is the development of junior golf. The blueprint is being laid in the coming days and weeks to conduct a comprehensive programme, through which junior golfers will receive the much needed education and exposure in golf.

“The RCGC course, also popularly known as the Ridgeways, is the haven for golf in the capital city of our country. It’s utilised by foreign business delegates, who come down to Sri Lanka on official and business trips, as golf is one important aspect of any high profile business deal as we all know. So, unknowing to many, RCGC and golf play an important in contributing to the country,” Dr. Rohitha Silva, the Captain of RCGC stated.

“We are delighted to embark on this long term partnership with Nations Trust Bank as we believe that the tournaments we host together will add to the enjoyment on the green for both professional and amateur golf players alike, and thereby contribute further to the growth of the golf sport,” he added.

This collaboration expects to bring together avid golf players, offering them the chance to participate in competitive golf tournaments while fostering a sense of camaraderie. The tournaments will be accessible to a large number of participants, including NTB customers who are members of RCGC, including the bank’s corporate and commercial banking customers, American Express card members, private banking members as well as FriMi customers.

The upcoming tournaments through this partnership will feature attractive trophies and prizes across various categories such as Men’s, Ladies, Masters and Seniors. Special awards will include the Longest Drive at the 8th hole, Closest to Pin at the 13th hole, the NTB winner and overall winner of the tournament.
