Lanka Mahila Samiti will hold their annual handicraft sale, which has become a customary and well attended event, to display and popularize their products.

The samiti from its inception took a keen interest in reviving and promoting traditional cottage crafts of the country’s rural areas.

These products are designed to inspire everyone, with innovative art, clothing, crafts and unique gift ideas on offer.

Our talented rural members will display a wide array of gifts such as “Indikola” tablemats, wall hangings, embroidered table cloths, and cushion covers. Also children’s dresses and ladies nightwear are now a specialty with some samitis.

Unique items such as batik sarees, blouses, sarongs, skirts, costume jewelry, beeralu, thatin lace and table mats, ekel baskets and so on will be available as well as our traditional pickles, chutneys, spices, condiments and sweetmeats.

Visitors can shop for wonderful gifts for their favourite friends, relations with a personal touch.

The highlight of the day will be a live demonstration of creating beeralu lace by one of our talented members: The “Art of Lace” how beeralu is being kept alive.

The sale will be opened to the public on December 6, at the Lionel Wendt Gallery from 9 am to 5 pm.
